Current / Upcoming Series
I don't do this too ofter but right now our team is doing some really great series for our students on Wed's and Sundays. If you have a student I strongly encourage you to have them participate. I think they blend creativity and Biblical teaching extremely well. Here is what students have been learning / will be learning around the North campus these days:
The Weekend:
We're kicking off a new series called "Everest" THIS Sunday! Here is the heartbeat of the series - Why can’t Christians be known as gutsy disciples…integrity animals…bold leaders…strong servants? Why can’t we be known to be like Joseph from the Bible? Joseph was a radically committed man of God, a rare hero who never committed the kind of fatal mistake that tarnished others. Joseph’s legacy is stalwart perseverance in the face of severe trial. His life-lesson is the trustworthiness of God’s providence while climbing life’s mountains. Learn from him and ready yourself for your life’s EVEREST!Week 1 - Base Camp: Joseph's Vision
Week 2 - "The Climb" Joseph's Slavery & Response
Week 3 - "Watching for Pitfalls" Joseph's Temptations
Week 4 - "@ the Apex" Joseph's Peak @ the Palace
We have Bible Study Every weekend @ 3 times for HS and JHigh
Sat @ 7:15pm
Sunday @ 9:30am
Sunday @ 11am
Wednesday Night Series:
At Motion (JHigh on Wed nights @ 6pm) we are wrapping up a series called "Fear." Basically Jason, our JHigh minister, has been discussing the scriptural view of fear as the opposite of faith. Here are the topics we have covered:10.14 Fear vs Faith
10.28 Dealing with Doubt
10.28 Fear and Unbelief

God_IS Speaking...this weekend

Over the last 7 weeks in our Student Minsitry we have been taking a close look at who GOD_IS.
We worship Him, We study His Word, He created all we see, we (at times) revolve our lives around Him, we call Him LORD, but who is HE? In this series we’re taking a look at the most basic doctrines of our faith, and some foundational descriptions of the character of the Almighty, the Creator, the Alpha and Omega – God. Here is where we've been...
GOD_IS TRINITY
GOD_IS CREATOR
GOD_IS LOVE
GOD_IS JUDGE
GOD_IS COME (THE INCARNATION)
GOD_IS SAVIOR
This week we are wrapping up the GOD_IS series by looking at How God speaks to us about Himself. God_IS speaking. The question is, “are you listening…do you know what to listen to?”
In case you are interested here are our teaching notes for the weekend:
Opening Video: Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail…God speaks! (1min)
After the video ask: If God really did come out of the clouds and speak to you…what do you think he would say to you?
Series recap: The last 6 weeks we have been looking at who GOD_IS and debunking some of the myths about who God_IS NOT. How could we know He is any of those things is he never spoke up about himself?
- God’s not silent about things
- He doesn’t just watch and not get involved
- He has SHOUTED about himself and about life and how to live it
- The 1st words of Creation in Gen 1:3 are, “and GOD SAID…”
- The question is…are you listening?
Illustration: 2 stories 1. The 1st love note I trashed 2. My daughter's 1st words
- When it comes to God speaking which story best describes the way you respond?
– Do you ignore Him, maybe out of fear, embarrassment, or pride…and go about your life? OR
– Do you stop and listen, pay attention, treat it like it is the most important thing in the world?
Read Hebrews 1:1-2
– Do you ignore Him, maybe out of fear, embarrassment, or pride…and go about your life? OR
– Do you stop and listen, pay attention, treat it like it is the most important thing in the world?
Read Hebrews 1:1-2
Then in Hebrews Chapter 2 we see…
“Therefore we must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.”
How does God speak to us?
1. In General Revelation
Creation
The existence of a Moral law (right/wrong)
2. In Specific Revelation
Prophets – to reveal God’s will, our need for Christ
Christ – to reveal God’s salvation plan
Bible Authors – to reveal how to live For Christ
Read again Hebrews 1:1 skip to Hebrew 2:1
His Word - 2 Tim 3:16
Holy Spirit
3. Through Your Revelation
· God’s not revealing anything new
· Old saying, “if it’s new it ain’t true”
· HE DOES – reveal himself to the world through those who have through faith become his Children
2 Corinthains 3:12-18
- God revealed himself to Moses – spoke to Moses on the mountain
- Moses’ response – cover his face as he came down to tell others about God
- Even today – without Christ people can’t get the full picture of God’s revelation
- As Christ followers we can reflect God’s glory, his story, His revelation to the world
What keeps us from doing that??
ANS: we wear masks! We’re not transparent
Closing illustration: video “What would God say if he could speak? man on the street

This week's Life Group discussion questions:
If God’s general revelation enough to explain who God_IS? Why? Why not?
What is something God has spoken to you lately? How do you know it’s from God? ( it matches up with His Word)
Give one real life example of General Revelation, Specific Revelation and How God uses you to reveal Himself to the world?
Read Romans 10:14 as a group. Do you see yourself as God’s messenger of his Revelation…his mouthpiece?
What message do you believe God desires for you to speak up about for Him? To who?
What masks do we wear that keep us from having “unveiled faces”

GOD_IS LOVE

It's homecoming season again! The time of year where everyone is asking the same question around all our HS campuses. Some can't wait to be asked the question so they can shout to the world their proud answer, others fear the mention of it.
It's the question: "So, who are you going to homecoming with?"
Just like valentines day and the prom, homecoming is a time of year were the word "love" get thrown around a lot. IS what we see at homecoming dances and on the faces of friends really love? This past weekend we talked about the fact that GOD_IS LOVE.
We started wrapping our brains and our hearts around this thing called love. Jesus said His followers should be known for it. God is it. So, what will you do with it? God's love changes everything! As we approach FALL RIOT in 9 days here are 4 truth's about God's love and the kind of love we can have as a response to His Love:
GOD_IS unconditional love
10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
1 John 4:10
Question: Do you love others unconditionally in the same way Christ loved you?
GOD_IS costly love (sacrificial)
The most basic definition of God’s love is sacrifice
God’s love = defined by sacrifice/cost
God shows his love by sacrifice
9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
1 John 4:9
Question: What has living out your love for Christ cost you?
GOD _IS pursuing love
1 John 4:19
God pursued you for a purpose…That you would pursue others
Peter’s Story: Jesus called him to minister to others as a way to show his love for God
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. John 21:11
Christ called Peter to respond to His pursuing love by pursuing others!

Christ called Peter to respond to His pursuing love by pursuing others!
”We love because he first loved us.”
1 John 4:19
Question: Who are you pursuing for Christ? Who are your “sheep”?
GOD_IS annoying/persistent love
God’s love is everlasting!
"I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
So, what’s or response???? Persistently love others

John says it this way…
11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
13”We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. 16And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.” 1 John 4:11-16
