Does your cell phone make calls or make THE call?

Smart phones, MP3 players, laptops and other devices are the air kids breathe -- perhaps too deeply, judging from a new study that shows children ages 8 to 18 devote an average of seven hours and 38 minutes a day consuming some form of media for fun. That's an hour and 17 minutes more than they did five years ago...

What about in your home, in your life??? Does the cell phone make calls or make THE calls in your home/life?

Parents/leaders, I challenge you to take some time out of your day READ THIS ARTICLE and evaluate. 1, 2, 3, go!

Wednesday Night Lights - this Wed!!!

THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT (FEB 27)

6:30-8:15PM

7-12 GRADES / @ the Pavlion

WHAT'S THE WHOLE THING ABOUT??
Simply, It's about our students inviting their friends who don't know Christ to come for a night of FREE PIZZA & LIVE MUSIC where they will plainly and creatively hear the Gospel.

It's about the Gospel! - - If you're like me I need to intentionally make a place to invite friends to hear about Jesus.

  • If you're a student who is someone you can intentionally bring with you this Wednesday and watch what God does?
  • If you're a parent I challenge you to encourage your teen to play a part in reaching their friends by participating in WNL!

Premiere Weekend...like Beach Retreat in Feb!

Premiere Weekend is coming up! Is your 7-12 grader signed up?

2 quick notes on Premiere Weekend from
Brian Harris, Student Pastor @ SBC North:

1. Does your teen have something else going on that wknd? Even if your students has another "activity" that weekend still be sure to have them sign up. We set up the weekend for "Time-away" cards for students who cannot participate the entire weekend. parents, please hear me - some involvement at Premiere is better than none for your student!

2. Is your student hesitant because they are not really connected to other students here? If so, my advice is send them on anyway...that's right! The purpose of an event like Premiere Weekend is to place your teen in a situation where relationships will blossom out of an experience together. I promise you and your student will not regret it!

Registration forms and Info Packets are available @ www.second.org

What is Premiere Weekend you ask?
Premiere Weekend (Feb 5-7) is the most incredible weekend of the year! High School and JHigh students gather in homes all over the Houston area for an incredible time of fun, friendships, and discussion. Each evening students from all five campuses will come together for an amazing worship experience with talented guests Kristian Stanfill, Issac Improv, and illusionist Drew Worsham. The worship, small group times and activities will make this event one powerful weekend in the lives of our students! Here is Part 1&2 of a promotional movie we are showing to students that will have a dramatic ending @ Premiere Weekend...

JUST ASKING...

This January 17 – March 7 we're challenging all our church to "Just Ask"

Maybe you yhave noticed a red chair around the church... The Purpose of the whole red chair thing is to raise our own awareness of who “isn’t” here and how it’s as simple as just asking them to come – God does the rest! It's a reminder to us that we are charged by God to be those who ASK others to get closer to HIM.

The Chair represents those who are not yet asked to come see all that God IS doing here @ Second! Every student that visits will be asked to “sign” the chair @ Check-in then the chair will be displayed on stage with it’s growing base of signatures each week.

Who are you going to ASK this week?

Here's what you can do….
• Challenge your students to be intentional (make lists, pray for individuals each week)
• Remind your teens each week (ideally on Friday) to “JUST ASK” someone.
• Remember we are simply asked to begin ASKING; let God take it from there!
• Use Premiere Weekend as another way to let the invitation to go out...maybe you know someone who would come to Premiere Weekend before they would ever come to church
• Know your church is praying for you as you go!!!

huh, who could I ask to join me Sunday???

Planning an Intentional Devotion Life for 2010? Do you have a plan?

The most important thing you can do in 2010 is cultivate a devotional life that facilitates an intimate relationship with God. You won't accidentally get close to God. So, for 2010 I wanted to encourage you to evaluate your plans for pursuing HIM. Here are some of the things I'm excited about pursuing in 2010:

A Plan: I'm excited about the Bible Reading Plans ( from YouVersion.com ) This online bible has 20+ solid reading plans and almost every translation to choose from available directly on your mobile device. Exciting. Useable. Consistent.

A no exemption Time and Place: don't allow other things in your life to schedule out your time with the Lord. This year I'm planning my time and treating it like an appointment with the most important person in the universe. morning, night, lunch - whatever; just make it consistent and not optional.

Journal your Thoughts and Prayers: journaling helps me process what I am learning from the Lord. It's good to go back and read your journal to see how God has been working and moving in your life. Get a moleskin or a cheap equivalent and just do it for a season, see if it helps you. Barnes and Nobles has the best journals I've found

Realize this is a Community Project: share what God is teaching you - get together with a group of others regularly to talk about what God is doing. I'm planning on meeting with a group of students once a week to talk about what God is teaching them - teaching me. Your faith is personal but it was never meant to be private.

Don't give up: I love what a friend wrote recently, "I've missed meal in the past, but I never gave up on eating. I just made sure I did not miss out on the next meal (and usually made up for it). You are going to miss days, often times multiple days. Just know that your righteousness isn't based on the consistecy of your devotional life; it is in Jesus Christ who is constant and ever faithful."

Another quote from my friend JR - The beauty and joy of 2010 will not depend upon your circumstances, but upon your experience of the One you were made for. As much of him that you want to experience, you will experience. He promises to reward those who diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6).

God bless you in 2010 as you seek Him 1st! Want to read more? - check out this post by my pastor friend from NYC, JR Vasser Planning an Intentional Devotion Life for 2010
