Collision Groups are coming!

Get maps and info on Collision Groups near you!

This fall Wednesday Nights for High School students here on the North Campus is taking an exciting new turn! Starting SEPTEMBER 1st High School students will begin meeting in homes every week around the NE Houston area for Fun, Friends, Fellowship, and Food, but mostly solid discussion based Bible Study. We are so excited about the potential that these groups carry for High School Students, their friends, and your teen! it's our hope that every student in our ministry will find a Collision Group they can be a part of and begin to connect with and grow in God's Word weekly.

COLLISION GROUPS are the place that friends and God's Word collide in your life! Students meet during the week in homes all over NE Houston for food and fellowship, then breakout to study God's Word in a small group setting. Homes are designated by school. There is a Collision Group for you - near you!

COLLIDE - every 4-6 weeks students will still gather toghether on Wednesday Nights under the lights of the Rec Fields and pavilion for what we formerly called "Wednesday Night Lights." Wew're now calling these monthly outreach/evangelsm / baptism nights COLLIDE as students will break from their Collision Groups to worship, and share Christ with their friends.

1st COLLIDE will be this Wednesday Night August 25 @ 6:30pm in the FLC gym. (maps to Collision Groups will be available that night)

  • How is your church's ministry setup to both reach into God's Word and Reach out to a world of people who need Him in their lives?
  • How is the balance in your personal life setup to both grow in God's Word and GO and bring others to Christ?
  • Who is it you are opening up God's Word with on a regular basis? husband/wife, family, friends, church members
  • Who is it you are chasing after for their salvation's sake. "Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory." 2 Timothy 2:10

Brian's best books of the summer

"Summer Reading catch-up time!", or "I've gotta catch up on my summer reading!" I've been hearing that a lot the last few days as many of our students prep to head back to school next Monday. Summer Reading, well I know that most students aren't too crazy about the idea (I know I wasn't in High School), but I have definitely learned to love reading. Leaders are Readers. Here is a brief list of my top reads from this summer:

Radical by David Platt

Words Kids Need to Hear by David Stall

Everyone's a Coach by Ken Blanchard and Don Shula

The Little book of Coaching: Motivating People to Be Winners by Ken Blanchard and Don Shula

What Is God Really Like by Craig Groeshel

Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem (just some selections)

Generation iY by Dr. Tim Elmore

Well, that's it - summer's over now, hummm what will I read this fall??
What are you reading?

Are you a part of the "Desensitization Nation?"

Are you a part of the Desensitization Nation?
Do you desire to be useful to God where you're at?
Would you like life to count for things that are lasting?
Let me pose a question: "How sensitive are you to what you do, say, watch, and play?"

Between recent conversations concerning those close to me in choosing cohabitation over covenant marriage, some of the new MTV sitcoms that have aired recently, comments I hear coming out of some of our young people's mouths, my own time measuring all this in my own life against the standard that is God's Word, and what God is trying to pound into me personally I find I'm more and more sensitive to the "desensitization" that is gripping our nation. We are a people who are troublingly close to moral collapse, and we seem to be running full steam away from things that honor God, family, and even our selves. Young/old, male/female - it doesn't seem to matter as everywhere I look I see a people (@ times myself) who are becoming more and more "comfortable" with those things that do not honor God much less a stable culture.

When was the last time you stopped to think if the words you say to others, images you see, and messages you take in hold honor for a infinite God, and His purposes for your life? What is being built there?

Don't be live the culture we live in is running hard in a dangerous direction?? Seems like things aren't that bad? Check out this article our High School Pastor, Jonathan Gray, posted on our High School Blog regarding some new shows that have recently become popular (read: normal) among our nation's teens: http://www.thesource4ym.com/youthculturewindow/article.asp?id=145

I'm not sure about you but I desire to be found faithful, useful, noble, purposeful, and prepared in this life to make much of Christ...read what scripture says in 2 Timothy about our constant need to clean house in order to be used by a God for His Kingdom -

"In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work." 2 Timothy 2:20-21

fight the pull to join the nation of desensitization - I know I will

for HIS NAME

When the kids are away, Dad will play!

Headed to Raisin' Canes with some friends from church tonight! yea it's in the Woodlands, and yeah, I should go home and go to bed, but since my family is gone for 2 days I can't stand to go home to no one so I got pulled into this trip. Sweet tea here I come!
